A Northern Light Chapter 9 Summary

This chapter is in the flashback.

A week had passed since she had gotten the letter from Barnard College and Mattie was going to go and cheer up Minnie because that baby coming was making her tired, and wanted to ask her how she could possibly get a ticket to NYC. When she got there Minnie was giving birth and the only one there was Mrs. Crego. The midwife, and she needed Mattie's help. After her struggle, Mrs. Crego realized there were 2 babies and one of them was turned. They had not been expecting twins. The first one to come was a boy, shortly followed by a girl. Mattie then explains how she is never going to marry after the pain she just saw and reflects over how she can't have love and books, well she knows no one that has both. When Minnie's husband Jim walks in he is overcome with joy.
