A Northern Light Chapter 31 Summary

This chapter is about a week after she starts working at the Glenmore, in the flashback.

Mattie was just beginning to belong at the Glenmore, she had gotten her first paycheck. Weaver came in all beaten up. He was attacked by 3 drunken trappers who called him a N*****, and he said stuff back. As punishment for getting into trouble, Mr. Sperry said that he had to stay in the kitchen because he looked like he had been through the meat grinder. He couldn't earn tips until he healed. Weaver then begins to talk about how they would each find a new place, and Mattie thinks to herself she has already found one, in Royal Loomis' arms.
