A Northern Light Chapter 27 Summary

This chapter takes place in the flashback.

Pa wasn'y one for religion, and Mattie was thinking about taking her sisters to the church. Beth and Mattie were on their way to Emmie Hubbard's house in the rain with an umbrella. They talked about the fact that Emmie and her kids might be going away. They got a second letter setting the date for the Auction: August 20th. Tommy asked Mattie to come over, and she brought the extra biscuits for the kids over. They were getting milk money. Beth asked if Mattie was going to leave for college or stay and marry Royal, and her dream of going to college just felt like a dream. When she got there all of the kids were outside in the rain, they said that Mr. Loomis was fixing the stove and it was dangerous so she couldn't go in. She looked through the window before she knocked and saw Mr. Loomis cheating on Mrs. Loomis with Emmie Hubbard, not fixing anything. Beth saw nothing. Mattie and Tommy were the only ones that knew and she would keep it that way.
