A Northern Light Chapter 10 Summary

This happens in the flashback.

Mattie wakes up to her Pa with the new composition book she bought. He is drunk from drinking whiskey after selling 12 gallons of syrup he made from the sap. He ripped out one of the pages and threw it into the coals of the oven. She tells him that she didn't use his money that he gave her to buy cornmeal instead, but the money of the fiddleheads. He then gets angry because they have been eating mush while she had extra money. Suddenly he hits her and she tastes the blood in her mouth. She lands on her hip. As he tries to apologize, she shakes him off and orders him to go to bed.
