A Northern Light Chapter 4 Summary

The Flashback has finished but will probably restart within the next few chapters.

This chapter gives the reader more information on the letters that Grace Brown gave to Mattie to burn. She gave them to her the day she bought her the lemonade, on the porch. She had had a fight with Carl at lunch. AFter giving it some thought Mattie agreed to burn the letters for Grace. Many people, like a man from Boonville paper's comes to report the death of Grace and the alleged death of Carl Grahm, of which his body has not been found. so they must prepare for all of the people.

Three mysterous gunshots come from the lake and the reader is not given anymore info on those.

Mattie writes out the story of the death, in her mind: eloping to get married looking for a chapel, she was promised to another but loved Carl and so they ran away to get married and on a romantic boat ride he reached for a lily pad and tipped the boat. He tried to savce her but he couldn't. Then he drowned to because he couldn't live without her. Then they were buried next to eachother in a fancy cemetary.

MATTIE MADE THAT SCENARIO UP

Then Mattie explains that it was a new ind of story: Grace and Carl, with a different ending, The kind of story she once told Mrs. Wilcox was a lie, and she said she would never ever write.
